Resume Action Verbs: 60 Examples That Actually Work

Weak verbs make strong work sound average. Below are sixty action verbs grouped by the kind of contribution — building, improving, leading, serving, analysing — so you can pick the precise one in seconds. Each bullet wants exactly one verb followed by what, for whom, and the measured result.

Build, improve, lead

Builders use launched, engineered, designed, prototyped. Improvers use streamlined, cut, accelerated, automated. Leaders use directed, mentored, coordinated, drove. The verb should match the proof that follows — 'spearheaded' with no outcome reads hollow.

Serve, analyse, communicate

Service roles: resolved, served, retained, de-escalated. Analysts: modelled, forecasted, audited, benchmarked. Communicators: presented, published, trained, negotiated. Frontline and support work has its own strong verbs — use them instead of borrowing executive ones.

Delete these on sight

Responsible for, helped with, worked on, various, stuff, synergy, guru, ninja. Replace each with what you actually did plus a number. 'Responsible for inventory' becomes 'Tracked 400 SKUs with 99.2% count accuracy.'

Do this week

  • Circle every weak verb on your current resume tonight.
  • Swap in precise verbs from the matching group.
  • Add a number to each swapped bullet.
  • Read bullets aloud — one verb, one result each.

Quick answers

One verb per bullet?

Yes. Two verbs split credit; pick the stronger and let the result carry the rest.

Are buzzwords ever okay?

Only as nouns the posting requires ('Agile', 'SEO'). As verbs describing you, never.

What about entry-level with no results?

Scope is a number too: items per hour, customers served, accuracy rate, training completed.
